All these years and that non-compliant system is still being presented on the web.
A grid tied PV system is NOT a separately derived system (SDS) and thus you do NOT switch the neutral as it is presented. Yes it passed inspection but it is not code (NEC) compliant. Another example of "don't believe everything you see on the web".
There's a pic of the AC disconnect switch which is three pole. I talked to Doug about how it was wired years ago and he said the switch was wired to disconnect the neutral. AFAIK it is still wired that way and it is still not compliant.
I don't see where he is presenting it that way, or where he is giving a wiring diagram. I would have used blue UV resistant ties, or try to use the metal clips, but I think his system otherwise looks fine. The only thing that I noticed was that it sounded like he put a stand-along ground rod under the array that wasn't bonded to the rest of the ground system.
Look... the "builditsolar" is a do it yourself site. I admire DIY'ers and have respect for their confidence in their abilities and self-sufficient life style.
It just bugs me that they go to a DIY site and see non-compliant devices and processes. It just adds to the "hack" mentality that they so much want to avoid.

Same here on admiring and supporting the DIY mentality with respect to self reliance ~ 110%. On the other hand, while exceptions exist, I'd not place a whole lot of reliance on most DIY stuff I've seen in person as to it's safety, reliability, serviceability, longevity and engineering.
