I also flew in a Hercules into Malacoota to fight fight fires in the early 80s, there were scenes on the news of people on the jetty this week forced from there homes in Malacoota.
I have since been to fire fighting training which was put together after fire fighters died in their trucks and I now know back then we could easily have been caught in what is now known as the dead Man zone as it was not really known about then.
I prefer now to deal with Cyclones, the forecast data for them is good and you have days to prepare for them. Bushfires are to fast and unpredictable and in a lot of cases impractical/impossible to defend your home.
Hi All, its raining in Adelaide today so that should put out the Kangaroo Island fire so thats good, had some of our friends and customers loose their houses in the Adelaide Hills fires and Yorke Peninsular fires but i feel so sorry for those in NSW and VIC, hope our rain heads there way now. Apologies to those waiting to get approved to post I am on it now.
