Hi everyone, I live in Florida, and just got quoted for a 16KW system (no battery) @ 68 thousand. It seemed quite high, but I thought, local company, no subcontractors, they even has a roofing department (my roof is 16 years old) which quoted a new roof at 15K; might be ok, but a still felt majorly fleeced. I told the field adviser, I was having misgivings, and he immediately said he spoke to his manager to have 6K removed from my quote. My question is, was this quote highly inflated or am I paranoid?

The best thing you can do is get multiple quotes and let the contractors know you are doing so. They are more likely to lean out their bid, knowing this.2 Kw PV Classic 200, Trace SW 4024 460ah, -
Sounds high but my DIY system @ 7.2 KW I consider high cost at $11,000 and never would have installed it had it not been for state rebates. My power company currently charges $0.15 KWH for some background.Comment

I hate feeling robbed, at that offer made me feel just so.Comment

My installer, who installs both roofs & pv solar, 19.66kw was $60k before 30% tax credit.
2017 price $3.05 watt
After tax credit $2.14 watt
The price of my equipment has dropped drastically, how can 2022 cost be so high.Last edited by vballdad; 09-27-2022, 04:30 PM.40-290w Hanwha SE10000

For me though I can only install about a 7kw system and even at $2/watt it calculates out to more then 12 years ROI which is way too long for me.Comment

A 16kW system is quite large. This MarketWatch article states that the average system is 5kW. Are you sure you need that many panels?

Anyone know how did any solar arrays survive hurricane Ian? I's always discounted Florida as a place for PV solar because of the hurricane risk. Maybe that is why your quote is so high?BSEE, R11, NABCEP, Chevy BoltEV, >3000kW installedComment

They had a roof blow off a hospital. Even if the racking holds the roof itself might be the failure point.2 Kw PV Classic 200, Trace SW 4024 460ah,Comment
