    Apsystems DS3-L not working

    Hello
My name is Wayne and I am from the interior of British Columbia Canada, My friend recently installed a 10KW system of grid tied PV on his roof. He used Apsytems DS3-L microinverters. After the install he is have a problem where the inverters worked for the first day after install then after a dark night the inverters would not start producing again the next day. He physically had to unplug the DC wires from the panels going to the inverters to cause the inverters to reboot and then they produced power all day again. After the next next night of no DC the inverters will not "wake up" with the arrival of the next days sun and start producing unless he roboots them all everytime. Has anybody experienced this issue or does anyone have any ideas what would cause these microinverters to behave this way? Every morning all of his panels show up as "NC" on the APsystems EMA monitoring app. After he reboots them the led on the inverter starts to flash the self diagnostics sequence then they start producing power and the EMA app show the corresponding panels as connected and producing.

No the problem is not resolved and APSytems says they are working on a software fix. But so far customer support has been poor. Since this is a new installation I expected APS to exchange all the bad units with new ones as part of a warranty issue but that have not done that, has you had any luck resolving the issue?

It’s exacly the same for me (on the other side of the world). I installed 5 ds3-l’s on 5/nov/2022 and they never start up automatically. Apsystems told me by phone and email that they will solve the problem by a firmware update. The update was planned the end of last week. Distribution could take several days.
Today I’ve started 1 of ds3-l. There was no reaction at all. After 1 hour he started producing. But after one spike he stops an other hour and after that he started normal producing. This behavior looks like an update but I saw this also 2 days ago. The next morning he didn’t start.
The support from APsystems is very poor. No updates after the first reaction. They reach my limits.

When they can’t fix it with an update they have a big problem because in many cases they are on a nearly unreachable place installed.

When there is some progress I’ll post it on solartalk.

I'm having similar issues with a DS3-L installation that was done a few days ago. Six DS3-L units, all initially seemed to work but are now showing "NC" with no power output.

To summarize, I first added the DS3-L units to the ECU-R in EMA manager, then mounted them and connected the panels (no AC yet), the green LED blinked upon initial connection. They were detected and showed up online in EMA manager & EMA app and they seemed to work, but about 30 minutes later I checked on them and they were no longer functioning (showing "NC", no AC power is produced now, no LED). It's been very sunny here for the past few days but I have not seen them come back to life.

Can you please give more detail about the software/firmware update that APsystems promised? Is it an update to the DS3-L or to the ECU-R? Did they say if it would be automatically deployed, or must things be manually updated? I ask because the ECU-R automatically updated its firmware last night from 2.1.3 to 2.1.4, but the problems with the DS3-L units remain.

It is a firmware update for the inverters. My ECU is now also on version 2.1.4. On 5/11 my ECU started at version 2.0.7b. The updates are fully automatically. Even when the inverters don't produce APSystems told me.
Last week they have installed new firmware on the inverters but without result. This week there comes an other update to solve the problem.

I saw the quality claim from APsystems on their site but de Ds3-l's don't produce and they can't fix it in a normal period of time. Very strange that they didn't saw this in the testprocedures.

There comes a time that they have to change the inverters for better ones.

Like you, my ECU-R also started on 2.0.7B when I first unboxed it. It just updated itself again a few hours ago, now it is on 2.1.5. So it has been running 3 different firmware versions in the past 24 hours (2.1.3 -> 2.1.4 -> 2.1.5). Things are still not functional, but I suppose the steady stream of updates can be taken as a sign that someone at APsystems is actively working towards a solution.

I asked about getting replacement inverters and the response I got implied that this might be a widespread issue, so it seems like any new units may end up in the same state. I am supposed to receive more news as soon as it is available, but I don't know when that will be.

I am sending positive thoughts to the firmware developers at APsystems; they are probably under a lot of pressure to come up with a quick fix.

The inverters are still not working. Day 15 for me.

Installed 2 plants in the Netherlands with DS3-L inverters... Exactly the same situation. APsystem promised software updates but no difference so far.....

My decade old inverters have worked flawlesly since new, with
no external software interaction whatsoever. It is my opinion
that the mfrs originally added software access so they could
save money on displays, touting it as a "feature". Given the
general inability to consistantly produce bullet proof programs,
I see it as just a liability. And making something more complex,
less free standing, than it needs to be.

Now some mfrs are trying to use it for more control of purchased
products (ask the farmers about their court win), and hackers
are using it to our detriment. not good Bruce Roe

Just talked to apsytems. The problem seems to be clear. The inverters turn themselves off at 45 volts instead of at 60. (So it depends on de panels). Within a few days I will receive new inverters that are set to 60 volts. Remote update doesn't seem to work or takes too long. I'm a little bit happy but still have to wait and see.

What brand / type panels do you have?
