    Solar panel installation

    Hello,

I want to instal a Photovoltaic system in my house, but i'm a bit confused..I have some doubts regarding it...

First, I recently got quote from a solar panel installation company called Warma UK, Anyone have any previous experience with them? Should I consider them?
Installing an additional layer of panels that would extend about 15 inches above the edge of the roof could be an option (the other layer would be mounted vertically). The panels would face south because the wind in this area is moderate but not too severe. Is it a good idea to do that?

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

I'm guessing you're in the UK?

In my area, the building codes require a 'setback' on roof-mounted panels. From each edge of the roof, there must be a minimum distance before the panel, so you have a narrow strip where a person can walk. They would never be allowed to extend out beyond the roof.

My panels are on a stand-alone mount, and in winter they hang nearly vertical. I would not worry about wind unless you are in a location that normally sees hurricanes.

I would stay away from that company. I've heard they have people creating fake accounts on forums such as this one to get people talking about them, hoping to draw business. If true, that's a pretty shady practice in my opinion.

With the climate changes we have been seeing recently? I wouldn't.
If you have extra land space, maybe worth looking into ground mounting.
As for company evaluations, realistically, companies that exist today may not exist in 5-10 years time. The criteria I look for are competence in electricals and I would hire my own QP (qualified professionals) to do the system design and structural assessment and ensure the company adheres to it by asking the QP to monitor. Supervision by a QP IMHO is more important.
