SunPower PVS5 System Blinking Blue Light

    Hello,

I currently have the SunPower PVS5 system installed, and recently, I've noticed that it's showing a blinking blue light. At first, I thought it might be due to internet connectivity problems, so I tried fixing it by connecting the system to the Ethernet wire. Unfortunately, that didn't solve the issue. I also attempted to directly connect the system to the router using a wired connection, but it didn't make any difference. I did Power OFF and ON with 15 min wait time but still no change.

When I reached out to SunPower for help, they suggested contacting my installer. However, I found out that my installer is no longer in business. So, I'm wondering if there's a simple solution that I can try myself to fix this problem.

Thank you for your quick responses.

    Best regards.

It sounds like the 3G Cellular modem has been discontinued. I found this information...

A quick and simple solution that connects the PVS5 back to your Wi-Fi, where you can update the software and keep the system running smoothly.

There is a work around in that manual. You may have a wire crossed somewhere.

I do not have Sunpower. My inverter is by Generac. They have a "Beacon" cellular component that did not work in our home so we (I helped, I am an old IT hack) ran new CAT6 from the router to the inverter.

I followed the same instructions in the link you posted earlier but no luck. I do not receive any IP address back from PVS5 unit when I connect via Ethernet wire and neither does the App.

Okay, so let's step though this:
        1. You power up the PVS5.
        2. The blue light comes on and blinks.
          1. Question: When you hook up the rig to the port on the PVS5, do you see the two small LEDs at the LAN 1 port? If so...
          2. Question: When you plug in your CATn cable between the PVS5 and the router, do you see any Tx/Rx lights blinking on the router port you are plugging into?

#1 I didn't pay attention the LAN 1 port LEDs. I was only checking to see if I receive any IP from the unit. Let me hook up again today and check.

#2 I don't think I noticed the Tx/Rx lights on Router port but let me check this as well again confirm.

I do not know your exact configuration, but this link (which I am sure you have looked at already) as the different SunLink hardware components. What parts do you have or are you using? That may help with this crowdsourced PD.

Lean how to troubleshoot an error in your SunPower Customer Portal or mySunPower app saying that there is lost communication in your system or dashboard is not updating.

And (yet) another sidebar note (sorry...):

When we installed the dedicated Cat6 cable here, my Generac technician had to go into the inverter configuration panel and tell the inverter that it was using the dedicated network cable rather than the cellular modem. We DID see connectivity (Tx/Rx lights on solid, not blinking), The link had power, just no final network connection. In our case, the inverter LAN connection was still in default settings.

He had to THEN use his mobile configuration tool to configure that port for our home network IP Address and SSID.

To get there, he had to enter the system default USERID and default PASSWORD into that mobile app to then get into the configuration settings. In the Generac world, that default information is on a sticker attached to the inside of the networking module.

I do believe he used a stub Ethernet connection between the inverter networking module and his Android phone (we had a blur of activity going on at the time) to make the changes then we plugged the inverter back to the home network and got the good networking signal.

This may be the type of process you will need to go through to activate your new network connection.

Is your system not producing power, not communicating, not reporting, or produces power but doesn't communicate or ? How old is your PVS5? It has a 10 year warranty.

Sunpower documentation doesn't show any error codes for blinking blue LED.

Seach google for "Download SunPower PVS5x Quick Start Manual". You will be able to download the quick start manual.

Of particular interest is Section 4 on Commissioning.

You said you connected an ethernet cable without success. Since you have already monkeyed around with the PVS5, I have to assume you know what you are doing around line voltage and communication cables.

                1. Take your laptop out to the PVS5 with an ethernet cable. Make sure wifi is turned off. While it is probably not important, I would use a straight through cable and not a cross over cable.
                2. turn off your PVS5 for 5 minutes to make sure everything is dead electrically and to make sure any IP addresses are released.
                3. Turn on the PVS5.
                4. Connect the ethernet cable from your laptop to ethernet port LAN1.
                5. using a browser, go the www.sunpowerconsole.com to access the embedded web server. You should be able to access device status.

If this doesn't work, I don't know else to tell you.

                Good luck!

I tried above and there is no IP received so the URL wouldn't open.

I suspect something wrong with the PVS5 unit itself and not just the network configuration.

Then I'm guessing the unit is in a state that not accessible. No communication to unit to check status, update firmware, etc.

I'm not a Sunpower owner so I don't know if you need the PVS5 in order for the system to function. Is your system producing power or not?
