Others with more knowledge about solar will likely chime in.
But one bit of knowledge I do have your house has a 200Amp service not 400. Double check the main breaker it will say 200 on it. -
We have, and confirmed with the power company. its 200 amps per leg. for a total of 400 amp service. cause 200+200=400Comment

200A on one leg and 200A on the other leg gives you a 200 amp service.Comment

I have to agree with Mike 134. It looks like a 200amp service panel and not a 400amp panel. Having pictures of any data on the main breaker would help identify the panel rating and what we are dealing with.
Once we know exactly the panel size we can help the OP with the questionsComment

Each leg is 200 amps @ 120 Vac. Both legs combine for 200 amps,@ 240 Vac, hence, 200 amp service.
Similar to a 6 volt 220 amp hour Golf Cart battery. Two in series is still 220 amp hours but at 12 volts.Last edited by littleharbor2; 01-26-2024, 06:50 PM.2 Kw PV Classic 200, Trace SW 4024 460ah,Comment

Just to clarify what looks like a misinterpretation.
If you have 200Amp on L1, you can get 200A x 120V = 24,000W between the neutral and L1
If you have 200Amp on L2, you can get 200A x 120V = 24,000W between the neutral and L2
Between L1 and L2, you can get 200A x 240V = 48,000W
But you can never get 400Amps to flow inside a wire anywhere, and this is why what you have is a 200Amp service and not 400 AmpsComment

since no one will offer any help on the questions and going to far off the original. OP This is no longer needed.

You may want to grow a thicker skin if you are going to seek help on forums.
There is nothing wrong about not having a full understanding of the topic, it is after all why you want help.
As long as people are being nice, their corrections only serve to improve your knowledge and understanding, and that is a good thing.

We'll probably leave it up, since it's not really in the way and might help someone else with the same misunderstanding of 200A vs. 400A service that you had. Glad you got that figured out, and good luck with your project.Comment
