SunPower needs new customer service management

Solar systems do not work if the installer puts them under the shade of a tree. SunPower hires 3rd party companies and pays them before the system is operating. These 3rd party companies get paid and then they go out of business. I have been waiting for SunPower to do something about it. 10 years later, still waiting.

Obvious some people think (with good understanding) that Sunpower is not a good place to rely on if the equipment is not performing as stated by the installer.

SunPower is very slow in responding to issues. We sent them a letter after the first year and told them that the system was not working as expected. No response. They paid a performance guarantee payment(a small amount of money). I called and called and called. I am on my forth escalation specialist. They said they would add four more panels. That was two years ago. Still nothing. The installation company Green Energy Group went out of business. The new third party company is NovaSource and SunPower is having trouble working with them and continue to put off the install of the four panels.
Also, in southern California we have been in a drought for several years so I didn't know my roof was going to leak, When it finally started to rain I got two roof leaks and their contract says they are not responsible after 5 years. I had to hire a roofing contractor to replace 22 broken clay tiles on my roof that the Green Energy Group broke when they did the installation.
I call them and plead with them nothing happens. The Escalation specialists don't answer the phone you have to talked to a customer service person and they call the Escalation Specialist to tell them that you want to talk to them. It takes about a week and they might call you and when or if they do call they do nothing to solve the problem.
I am not a lawyer and have never had something like this happen to me in my 71 years.

In addition to not being a CPA, I'm not an attorney either nor do I play one of those on TV.

But, if you claim damages <= $12,500, get an attorney and/or go to small claims court.
If you do either or both of those things, get ready for the questions "Why did you wait so long?" and "have you read the contract you signed ?"

I doubt if you'll get much out of the vendors but you might get something out of Sunpower.

Readers considering solar PV take note:
All this is a sad situation but IMO only, what is described here is a good set of examples of what can happen when consumers don't stay on top of a job and don't exercise due diligence in vendor selection and job surveillance.

The phrase "trust but verify" seems to be appropriate as to what should have happened after this contract was signed but didn't.

I am a consumer who was led to believe that I could save money on my energy bill. I don't pretend to know a lot about solar. The numbers I was told were reasonable if the system would have worked. We were told that this was a first rate company and that they had the best solar panels and system at the time. I have no experience with 40 page contracts, arbitration and the legal mumbo-jumbo that goes with it. You would think that a company like SunPower would have ethical standards in the way they do business. The only reason for writing in this website is to tell people who are vulnerable and unknowledgeable about solar to be careful.

And you would not be the first to complain about SunPower. But I am glad to get your input on them and sorry they have not provided the service that you felt is due you.
