    Problem with Solar Tubes

    Hello everyone,

I hope someone out there may be able to point me in the right direction regarding a problem I am having with evacuated solar tubes.

The problem is that they are only partially heating the water.

I've had the system serviced and the glycol changed but it is no better.

On the controller, I can see that the tubes disperse the heat to to cylinder when the temperature goes about 8 degrees above the temperature in the cylinder.

I can then see the temperature on the tubes drop to below the temperature of the cylinder. The tubes then heat up again and on it goes.

However, recently I have never seen the temperature on the tubes go above 40 degrees celsius (I'm in Ireland) where as in the past when they were working I would have seen it in the 70s and 80s.

Any pointers in the right direction would be extremely useful.

Sounds like you may have some damaged heat pipes or E tubes. The heat pipes have a history of failing ( freezing) and loosing the heat transfer fluid.
